Two injured in morning fire

Seven people were forced from their home Saturday morning due to a fire. Two were injured at the scene, one had smoke inhalation and the other had burns to their hand.

Sixteen firefighters from three halls responded to a structure fire in the 4200 block of the Old Cariboo Highway.

Around 5am, crews arrived at a two storey duplex to find smoke coming from the main floor and roof of one of the units. Once crews entered the building, they found the fire had spread to the adjacent unit. The roof of the duplex was heavily damaged in the incident.

Total damages are estimated to cost $500,000.

Crews remain on scene to check for hotspots at the time of writing this.
