MLB:

Oakland A’s  6  Toronto Blue Jays  2

The (48-58) Blue Jays are 2-3 on a 10-game road trip that continues this afternoon in Oakland.

The (63-46) A’s are just a game behind the Seattle Mariners for the last AL wild card spot.

The (63-44) Mariners lost 5-2 to the AL west leading Houston Astros on Tuesday.

The Blue Jays dealt a pair of relief pitchers just prior to the 1PM MLB non-waiver trade deadline Tuesday.

The Jays sent lefty Aaron Loup to the Philadelphia Phillies for a minor-league pitcher (Jacob Waguespack) and they also unloaded 35-year-old righty John Axford to the Los Angeles Dodgers for another prospect pitcher (Corey Copping).

The 30-year-old Loup was the longest serving member of the Jays (seven years).

The Big Guy Lake Blazers, which includes several Prince George Falcon Contracting players, are headed to Regina for the Canadian Native Fastball Championships this long weekend.

The Blazers start play on Friday.

 

HOCKEY CANADA:

Prince George Cougars goaltender Taylor Gauthier is at the National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team Selection Camp in Calgary.

He stopped all 26 shots he faced in a 2-0 inter-squad victory Tuesday.

Gauthier is trying to land a spot on the Canadian team that will compete at the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup August 6th to 11th in Edmonton.

UPDATE: Gauthier is one of two goalies to make the team.

The PG Cougars have cut 20-year-old Tavin Grant who was the team’s starting goalie last season.

Grant posted a 13-17-1 record with a 3.74 GAA and an .892 save % in 37 games.

 

CFL:

The Montreal Alouettes will have quarterback Johnny Manziel bark out the signals for his first CFL start on Friday against the visiting Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The 1-5 Alouettes have scored the fewest points in the league while giving up the most.

The 2-3 BC Lions play Saturday at Calgary against the 6-0 Stampeders.
