BC BASEBALL PROVINCIALS:

(U-18 MIDGET DOUBLE-A CHAMPIONSHIP IN MISSION)

Prince George Surg Med Knights lost 7-4 to Aldergrove in the semi-finals.

Aldergrove went on to win the championship game 5-4 over Ladner.

The Midget Knights won all four of their round robin games: 10-0 over Vancouver Minor (Saturday) 6-5 over Ladner (Saturday), 13-0 over Kamloops (Friday) and 12-6 over Ridge Meadows (Thursday).

(U-15 WEST BANTAM DOUBLE-A CHAMPIONSHIP IN BURNABY)

Prince George LTN Contracting Bantam Knights placed second in the province.

The Bantam Knights won the West Division final 9-8 over Surrey (Saturday) after knocking off Tri-City 7-3 in the semi-final, but they lost to the East Division champion Vancouver Expos 9-8 (Sunday) in the championship game.

Prince George went 4-0 in the round robin (13-11 over Burnaby (Friday afternoon), 14-4 over Cloverdale (Friday morning), 11-0 over Vancouver Community Mounties (Thursday) and 14-1 over Triangle Vancouver Island (Wednesday).


NATIVE FASTBALL:

The Big Guy Lake Blazers team, which included several Prince George players, lost to the Westbank Cardinals in the senior men’s semi-finals of the Canadian native fastball championship in Regina.

Westbank went on to repeat as national champions to earn $12,000.

Big Guy Lake went 3-0 in the round robin: 8-4 over Peguis Redmen, 2-1 over the Little Black Bears and 15-0 over the TM Chiefs.

 

MLB:

Seattle Mariners  6  Toronto Blue Jays  3

The (51-60) Blue Jays finished 5-5 on a 10-game road trip.

The (64-48) Mariners are 2 1/2 games behind the Oakland A’s for the last AL wild-card spot.

Toronto will start a six-game homestand Tuesday against Boston.

The Red Sox have the best record in the Majors.

(Stampeders are 7-0 for the first time in 23 years. The Lions, who are just 2-4, host Edmonton Thursday)

Ottawa 4-3, Hamilton 3-4, Toronto 2-5, Montreal 1-6

HOCKEY CANADA:

Canada’s Under-18 hockey team lost 4-3 against the Czech Republic in an exhibition game Saturday night in
Red Deer.

Taylor Gauthier of the Prince George Cougars allowed four goals on 32 shots.

Canada will start the Hlinka Gretzky Cup tonight in Edmonton against Switzerland.

The tournament runs until Saturday.

There are 22 players on the Canadian team, 11 of them from the WHL.

Saskatoon Blades head coach Mitch Love of Quesnel is one of the Canadian assistant coaches.
