PG Bantam & Midget Knights drop just one game each at BC Baseball Provincials

A couple of Prince George baseball teams had perfect round robins but just came up short in their bid to win a provincial title.

The LTN Contracting Bantam Knights won the West Division final 9-8 over Surrey, however, they lost 9-8 to the East Division champion Vancouver Expos at the BC Baseball U-15 bantam double A championship in Burnaby and Richmond.

Prince George beat Tri-City 7-3 in the West semi-final after going 4-0 in the round robin (13-11 over Burnaby, 14-4 over Cloverdale, 11-0 over Vancouver Community Mounties and 14-1 over Triangle Vancouver Island).

The Prince George Surg Med Midget Knights were going for a third straight provincial title but they lost 7-4 to Aldergrove in the semi-finals of the BC Baseball midget AA championship in Mission.

Aldergrove went on to win the provincial final game 5-4 over Ladner.

In the round robin, the Midget Knights outscored Ladner 6-5, Vancouver Minor 10-0, Kamloops 13-0 and Ridge Meadows 12-6.

The Big Guy Lake Blazers team, which included several Prince George players, lost 3-1 to the Westbank Cardinals in the senior men’s semi-finals at the 25-team Canadian native fastball championship in Regina.

Westbank went on to repeat as national champions to earn $12,000.

Big Guy Lake ended the tournament with a loss against the host Golden Hawks of Regina to end up with an overall 3-2 record.

The Blazers went 3-0 in the round robin: 8-4 over Peguis Redmen, 2-1 over the Little Black Bears and 15-0 over the TM Chiefs.
