Increased evacuee numbers, raging wildfires force last minute changes to BCNE

The 106th BCNE Fall Fair begins today in Prince George.

The annual event brings in people from all across the north, especially those from rural communities and celebrates the history and significance of rural life.

Some last minute changes had to be made because of the number of wildfire evacuees in Prince George.

“We’ve had to move our vendors from Kin 1 because that is going to be used for evacuees, we are fully set up in Kin 2 and we have additional signage directing people. We’ve got a nice flow happening and I think it’s going to be a really busy building,” says Sylvia Layzell, BCNE President.

The number of evacuees in Prince George has eclipsed 500 to this point.

One of the more popular outdoor activities has also been postponed because of the current conditions.

“Unfortunately, due to the air quality, we’ve had to postpone our team roping and barrel racing and it will be happening at a later date as it soon as its safe for the horses.”

Another late shuffle to the fair centres around the firefighter games.

“Due to the fires, they have been called out to work on the fires across the province so the firefighter games for this year again have been called off.”

Gates open at 10 AM today with the rides kicking off at Noon.

The Fall Fair runs until Sunday.

Cougars fall to T-Birds in tight affair

It was a tight, physical game right until the end, but the Prince George Cougars dropped a 4-3 decision to the Seattle Thunderbirds."We got chasing the game a little bit but we got back in it, it was a hard fought game by both teams," said Cougars Head Coach and GM Mark Lamb on the post-game show on 94.3 the Goat.
