Over 200 speeding tickets issued in school, playground zones since September 4th

The focus has been on school zone speed enforcement since September 4th for Prince George RCMP Municipal Traffic Services. Since that time, 208 speed violation tickets have been issued.

Those tickets include 121 for speeding over 30km per hour in a school zone, 15 for speeding over 30km per hour in a playground zone, 68 for speeding over the posted limit in school advisory areas and corridors where children frequent, and four tickets issued for excessive speeding 45km per hour over the posted limit in a school or playground zone. The fastest recorded speed was 95km per hour. All four vehicles involved in the excessive speeding situations were impounded for a minimum of seven days; one of the vehicles was a loaded commercial tractor-trailer unit.

Tickets have also been issued for unsafe driving practices including nine for using a cell phone while driving and six for failing to wear a seatbelt.

One person on their way to pick up at least one child was arrested and charged with Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample under the Criminal Code of Canada.

The PG RCMP’s Municipal Traffic Services section says it will continue to focus on improving safety for vulnerable road users in the coming weeks.
