The UNBC Timberwolves ended 2014 league action with a win on home court in Canada West basketball. The Lady Timberwolves outscored the UBC Okanagan Heat 76-70 for their first victory of the season. The UNBC men beat UBCO 69-63 before 424 fans to sweep the doubleheader. As of the break, the Timberwolves are 3-5 in the men’s division and 1-7 in the women’s standings. UNBC will visit MacEwan Jan 9 and 10 with its next league home games Jan 16 and 17 against TRU.

–The Coquitlam Express scored twice in each of the first two periods and went on for a 4-1 triumph over the Prince George Spruce Kings to get a split of the double-header before 1,089 fans at the Coliseum. The Spruce Kings won the Friday game over the Express 6-4. The 16-11-0-2 Spruce Kings are in 2nd place in the BCHL Mainland Division a point behind the Chilliwack Chiefs. Prince George will host Chilliwack Friday and Saturday.

–The PG Spruce Kings acquired 19 year old forward Daniel Nachbaur from the Merritt Centennials in exchange for future considerations. Nachbaur (6’0” 180lbs) had 7 goals and 3 assists plus 19 penalty minutes in 25 games played with Merritt.
Meanwhile, the Spruce Kings traded 20 year old defenseman Valik Chichkin to the Camrose Kodiaks of the
AJHL in exchange for future considerations.

–The Major Midget leading Cariboo Cougars dumped the Okanagan Rockets 4-1 with all of the scoring in the third period. The teams meet again today (Sunday) at 11:30am at Kin 1.

–The 13-14 Prince George Cougars host the 13-14 Prince Albert Raiders Wednesday before they play at Kelowna on Friday and at Kamloops on Saturday. The Cougars are 8th in the Western Conference, a point behind Kamloops with two games in hand. The Raiders are 9th in the East, a point behind Moose Jaw. The Cougars will be without Jari Erricson, who was slapped with a two game suspension for a cross checking major and game misconduct against Regina on November 26th.

–The Duchess Park Condors placed 4th losing the bronze medal match to Little Flower Academy at the BC High School Girls Triple A Volleyball Championship in Parksville. The College Heights Triple A Girls settled for 13th out of 16. In other Volleyball Provincials: D.P. Todd finished 7th at the Girls Double A in Mill Bay; D.P. Todd came 6th and College Heights 8th at the Boys Double A in Langley, Cedars Christian played for 7th and 8th at the Girls A in Kelowna and PGSS ended up last out of 20 at the Boys Triple A in Langley.

–Jag Seehra of Prince George won top boxer of the 75th Anniversary Golden Gloves in Cloverdale. The Golden Boy award went to Seehra after a convincing victory in his final match against AJ Bopari of Kelowna. Inner City team-mate Kenny Lally ended up in an exhibition after his opponent could not pass the medical after he had a scratched retina from a sparring match.

–College Heights won its own Jr. Boys Icebreaker basketball tournament whipping Duchess Park 68-36 in the final.
