PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars split their two games in Langley against the Vancouver Giants; a 2-1 loss was followed by a 1-0 victory.

With his parents from Lakeville, Minnesota in the stands, Isaiah DiLaura made 26 saves for his first WHL shutout.

In six games this season, the 18-year-old DiLaura has a 3-2-0-1 record with 2.38 GAA and a .926 save percentage.

Ethan Browne scored the only goal on a power play eight minutes into the opening period.

Prince George will host Kelowna on Wednesday to begin a five-game homestand.

The 8-8-1-2 Cougars are third in the BC Division, just a point behind Victoria, although the Royals have three games in hand.

PG is also three points in front of Kelowna and five ahead of last-place Kamloops.

Trent Miner blocked 32 shots, including 17 in the third period to lead the Giants.

Connor Bowie, with his first goal of the season, gave Prince George a 1-0 lead after one.

Vancouver scored twice in the middle period 3:23 apart.

The Cougars have been outscored 19-6 in the second period this season.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

(BCHL)

The Prince George Spruce Kings split their two home games against the Langley Rivermen; an 8-1 win was followed by a 2-1 loss.

Braedon Fleming made 37 saves for the Rivermen before 958 fans at the RMCA.

Fleming lost his shutout bid with 56 seconds left in the game on a goal by Nick Bochen.

The 15-7-0-1 Spruce Kings are tied with the Coquitlam Express for second in the Mainland Division, five points behind the Chilliwack Chiefs with two games in hand on the Chiefs.

Prince George will play its next three on the Island: Friday in Powell River, Saturday in Alberni Valley and Sunday in Nanaimo.

The Spruce Kings next home game will be played on Wednesday, Nov. 21st against Trail.

Dustin Manz notched a hat trick and added two assists before 1,137 hometown fans.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars are riding a seven-game win streak following a sweep of a doubleheader against the Okanagan Rockets in Kelowna.

The 9-3-2 Major Midget Cougars visit the (7-5-1-1) Greater Vancouver Canadians Saturday night at 5 and Sunday morning at 10 in Richmond.

Cariboo is in fourth place, but just a point behind second and third and ony three points behind the (11-2-1) first place Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

The Cariboo Cougars will again spend their Christmas holidays in Alberta.

For the 14th consecutive year, the Major Midget Cougars have been invited to the prestigious Macs International Hockey Tournament, which begins Boxing Day in Calgary.

The Canucks are 1-1-2 on a six-game road trip and 10-7-2 overall.

Vancouver visits the (8-6-2) New York Islanders tonight and the (11-4-2) Minnesota Wild on Thursday.

The Blackhawks haven’t won in three games (0-2-1) since Jeremy Colliton replaced Joel Quenneville as head coach.

There are nine Tuesday games in the NHL with four Canadian teams in action. Besides the Canucks facing off at the NY Islanders, Montreal is at Edmonton and Toronto visits LA.

 

CHL CANADA-RUSSIA SERIES:

(Game Four Monday in Oshawa, Ontario)

The Russians are 2-2 in the six-game series.

They split with the WHL (2-1 WHL win followed by 3-1 Russia victory) and with the OHL (3-1 OHL win and 4-0 Russia victory).

Russia will conclude with two games against the QMJHL tonight in Sherbrooke and Thursday in Drummondville.

First home loss in eight games for the Toronto Raptors, who still have the best record in the NBA at 12-2.  Toronto will host the 6-6 Detroit Pistons Wednesday before a visit to Boston on Friday to face the 7-6 Celtics.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

The UNBC Timberwolves had the bye on the long weekend in Canada West basketball.

The Timberwolves host the Trinity Western University (TWU) Spartans Friday and Saturday at the Northern Sport Centre.

The UNBC women are 4-0 while the men sit 3-1.

TWU is 6-0 (women) and 0-6 (men).
