Prince George Cougars captain Sam Ruopp has been handed a two game suspension by the WHL. Ruopp was given a
kneeing major and game misconduct for a hit on Saskatoon’s Nick Zajac in the Cats 4-3 victory Tuesday over the Blades. He will miss the Cougars road games Friday in Everett and Saturday in Spokane. Ruopp will return to the line-up when the 16-15 Cougars host Spokane Tuesday and Wednesday in their final action prior to the Christmas break.

–Former Cougars defenceman Raymond Grewal of Prince George played his first game for the Prince Albert Raiders in a 3-0 loss to the Vancouver Giants. It was the Giants 4th straight win and the third consecutive game the Raiders have been blanked. In other WHL action, the Edmonton Oil Kings beat the Kamloops Blazers 4-1 and the Kelowna Rockets edged the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-3 in a shootout.

–A major trade in the WHL. The Prince Albert Raiders dealt defenceman and Winnipeg Jets first-round pick Josh Morrissey and 19-year-old winger Gage Quinney to the Kelowna Rockets in return for 18-year-old forward Austin Glover, 19-year-old defenceman Jesse Lees, a 2016 second-round bantam pick and a 2017 third-round bantam pick.

–The Lethbridge Hurricanes have promoted Peter Anholt from assistant general manager to head coach and G.M. He replaces Drake Berehowsky and Brad Robson who were both fired. Anholt has lots of experience having coached four other WHL teams (P.A., Red Deer, Kelowna and Seattle).

–In the B.C. Division of the WHL, the P.G. Cougars are in 3rd place, four points behind Victoria, three ahead of Kamloops and six in front of last place Vancouver.

–Prince George Spruce Kings defenceman Viktor Dombrovskiy is one of nine players from the BCHL named to Team Canada West for the World Junior A Challenge. The six team international tournament will be held Dec 14-20 in Kindersley, Saskatchewan.

–The (17-12-0-2) P.G. Spruce Kings entertain (16-12-0-2) Merritt Friday and (9-21-0-1) Cowichan Saturday to conclude an 8-game homestand. The Spruce Kings are second in the BCHL Mainland Division, five points behind Chilliwack and just one point ahead of Langley.

–The first place Cariboo Cougars host the North Island Silvertips Saturday at 4:45 p.m. and Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at Kin 1 in BCMML action. Cariboo has won 10 straight.

–Brother and sister Nicolas and Carolina Hiller headline the PG Blizzard Speed-skaters that have qualified to compete at the Canada Winter Games in Prince George. Both will participate in Long Track. Callie Swan of PG and Alison Desmarais of Vanderhoof will also compete at the Winter Games in February as both have been named to the BC Short Track Team.
