–The Major Midget leading Cariboo Cougars swept the North Island Silvertips to extend their win streak to 12 games. The Cougars won by scores of 7-1 (Saturday) and 4-1 (Sunday) to improve their record to 21-2-1.
Cariboo has allowed one goal or less in each of their past dozen games. The Cougars will travel to Richmond and Delta for games against the Greater Vancouver Canadians Saturday and Sunday before they go to Calgary over the Christmas holidays for the Mac’s international midget hockey tournament. The next Cariboo home games at Kin 1 will be played Jan. 10 and 11 against the Vancouver North East Chiefs. The Cougars have a commanding eight point lead over the second place Okanagan Rockets.

–The Prince George Cougars split their two weekend road games. A 3-1 victory over the Silvertips in Everett (Friday) was followed by a 3-2 loss to the Chiefs (Saturday) in Spokane which ended a 4-game win streak. It was the first time this season the Cougars have lost a one goal game (8-1) and first time they have lost when allowing three goals or less. The 17-16 Cougars host the (16-12-3) Chiefs Tuesday and Wednesday in their final action prior to the Christmas break. Prince George is 3rd in the BC Division, two points behind Victoria, three ahead of Kamloops and four up on surging Vancouver. The last place Giants have won six straight.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings picked up just one out of a possible four points in losing both of their weekend home games. The Spruce Kings fell 3-2 in double overtime (Friday) to Merritt before 1,024 fans and then dropped a 5-1 decision to Cowichan Valley (Saturday) in front of a crowd of 993. It was their final home action in 2014. The (17-13-0-3) Spruce Kings, sitting third in the BCHL Mainland Division, visit Langley Thursday, Surrey Friday and Coquitlam Saturday. P.G. is four points behind Langley and nine back of Chilliwack.

-–The Prince George Northern Cougars female midget hockey team finished with a 4-1-1 record and 5th place at a tournament in Wilcox, Saskatchewan. The Northern Cougars won their last game on Sunday 2-1 over Balmoral.

–Meagan Heinicke and Sarah Beaudry of Prince George made up half of the Canadian women’s biathlon team that ended up in the middle of the pack, 11th out of 23, in the 4×6 kilometre relay at a biathlon World Cup relay race in Hochfilzen, Austria.

–The College Heights Cougars took top honors at the D.P. Todd senior girls basketball tournament following a 46-32 triumph over the Cedars Christian Eagles 46-32 in the final. Meanwhile, in senior boys exhibition basketball, College Heights beat Correlieu of Quesnel 70-60.
