CNC set to celebrate Black History Month

By Ethan Ready

The College of New Caledonia and the Prince George African Heritage Society are celebrating Black History Month with an Afro Fusion Cuisine Dinner Dance and Entertainment on February 23, 2019.

Now in their 22nd year of celebrating Black History in Prince George, George Kaweesi, an instructor at CNC says they’ve combined many of their events from years past into one big event this time around.

Speaking on the importance of holding such events during the month of February, Kaweesi says, “we know that black history is not something that is taught in schools, so there has to be some way of exposing people to black history.”

The event will include authentic African, as well as Caribbean cooking, along with a dance and fashion show.

For those interested in attending the event, tickets can be purchased at the CNC Bookstore, UNBC Bookstore, Books and Company, DJ Afro Superstore, and at the door if available. Prices for tickets are $25 for ages 13 and older, $10 for ages seven to 12, and free for children six and under.
