The host Caledonia Nordic Ski Club placed two athletes in the Junior Girls top three at the 2015 Teck (Free Technique Interval Start) BC Cup races at the Otway Nordic Centre. Emily Dickson and Erica Kreitz were 2nd and 3rd respectively. The P.G. skiers were beaten only by Hannah Mehain who was one of the five women who were selected to represent B.C. at the 2015 Canada Winter Games. –The Prince George Cougars have acquired 19 year old
import defenceman Tomas Andrlik (Plzen, CZE) from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for a 12th round bantam pick this year. Andrlik (6’0”, 189 pounds) has four goals, 23 assists and 105 penalty minutes in 109 career WHL games.
The addition of Andrlik means that the Cougars roster now sits at 25 players: 15 forwards, eight defencemen and two goaltenders. The WHL trade deadline is Saturday.

–The Prince George Cougars play their first home game in 2015 when they entertain the Tri-City Americans tonight in the first of a double-header. Both teams have 38 points, tied for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

–David Soltes of the Prince George Cougars scored for Slovakia in a 4-2 bronze medal victory over Sweden at the World Junior Hockey Championship. It was the first medal in 16 years for Slovakia. Canada won the gold for the first time since 2009 with a 5-4 triumph over Russia. The Canadians never trailed in any of their seven games in the tournament. 10 current WHL players were part of Team Canada.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings, who have lost their last 3, are off until Friday when they start a 3 game Interior road trip in Vernon.

–Four speed-skaters with the PG Blizzard competed at the
Canada Cup #2 in Calgary. There were twelve races spread out over the four days. Best individual results included:
Nico Hiller 8th in Mens 5000m
Carolina Hiller 13th in Ladies 1500m
Samara Thew 26th in Ladies 500m
Lucas Hiller 28th in Mens 500m

–Next up for the PG Blizzard is the BC Long Track Championships at the Outdoor Ice Oval in Prince George on January 17 and 18. That is followed by the Coyote Cup short
track meet Kamloops, the Canadian Age Class Long Track Championships for 11-16 year olds in Saskatoon in February, the Canada Winter Games, and finally the BC Short
Track Championships in Vanderhoof, March 7 and 8.
