Some of the children in the pediatric wing of UHNBC were given a special treat this afternoon (Thursday) as two of the stars of Jurassic Quest came by for a visit.
Tina and Tyson, baby Tyrannosaurus Rexes, were brought to the wing by their trainers, Prehistoric Nick and Brainy Beth.
Child Life Specialist Sandra Wyatt, said it was a huge boost for the children’s morale.
“It takes their minds off why they’re here, another reason we have a therapy dog, is we talk about the dogs, we don’t talk about why they’re here, it’s a change of topic,” she said.
“To be first to see these, because some of them are going to the show, they’ll be talking about this all day, and when they explain where they’ve been in hospital, it won’t be that they had this, this, and this, it will be, ‘guess who came to see us’.”
Wyatt added that now that more COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted, they could have more events like this in the wing.
“We’ve missed out on so much in the last two years, we still have to do certain conditions, but we can’t wait to get back to normal so we can enjoy some extra curricular activity while they’re sick,” she said.
“There’s going to be a lot more happening, hopefully. FanCon is coming up, so hopefully we can get them back in, and whatever else hits town that would like to come pay us a visit.”
Jurassic Quest will be taking place at the CN Centre this weekend.
*No children were eaten by the dinosaurs during the event.
