Community Foundation, Downtown Rotary give remaining “Mega Park” money to Supertrak BMX Society

The Prince George Community Foundation has found a way to use the remaining funds from the proposed mega park project.

$76,513.17 is being awarded to the Supertrak BMX Society for the rebuild of their track.

“We are so excited and grateful to have been awarded the funds to grow our sport in Prince George and the North,” said Supertrak BMX Vice President Samuel Dean.

“These funds will be put to good use supporting the sport of BMX and our youth/adult athletes in the Prince George and surrounding areas.”

Dean added the funds will be used to upgrade and rebuild their track, and they will continue to fundraise for a roof so the track can be used year-round.

He said depending on the weather, they should be able to start work in the spring.

“The Rotary Club of Prince George is pleased to support this funding allocation to the Supertrak BMX in partnership with the Prince George Community Foundation,” said Downtown Rotary Club President Gary Wilson.

“Our club has a longstanding commitment to supporting youth programs in Prince George and we look forward to working with the Supertrak BMX Club to help them realize their future goals.”

Wilson added the $76,513.17 was the full remainder of the Mega Park funds.

The initial idea for the “Mega Park” was originally unveiled nearly two years ago prior to a Mega 50/50 jackpot game for the Prince George Cougars.

Prince George City Council decided against moving forward with the park in June, after which the Community Foundation and the Downtown Rotary Club announced they would no longer be pursuing the park.

It was estimated the park would have a $2.8 million cost up front, and would have had a $68 million cost over its 50-year lifespan.
