Council supportive of Tidewater’s carbon capture project

Prince George City Council will be providing a letter of support to Tidewater Renewables for the proposed addition of carbon capture technology at their complex in Prince George.

The company is proposing the technology at their Hydrogen Derived Renewable Diesel Complex to further lower the carbon intensity of the renewable diesel produced at the facility.

Tidewater is applying for funding through the federal government’s “Low Carbon Economy Challenge” to support the project.

The capital expenditures for the project are estimated to be $120 million, which the company says approximately half of which will be invested into the local economy through construction contracting.

Start-up of the operations is currently forecasted for 2027.

Tidewater also estimates the project would create an estimated 105 full-time equivalent jobs during development and construction phases.

Tidewater opened Canada’s first renewable diesel refinery in Prince George in June.
