Petitions, pot, power; PG City Council in for a monumental meeting

The next Prince George City Council meeting features a milestone reading of the first ever Cannabis Retail application.

Councillors will vote at Monday’s regular council meeting on a rezoning application, from the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB), for a Cannabis retail store at 6565 Southridge Avenue. If this vote goes through, council will hold a public hearing before finalizing a third and fourth reading.

If all goes well, Prince George could be the second place in the province to open a BC Cannabis store; the only other location currently is in Kamloops.

More information on the application can be found in Council’s agenda for the January 21st meeting under F.8.

Also on the docket, 1st Avenue Tavern is applying for a liquor primary license, FortisBC will be presenting their initiatives and work around the city, and a report will be presented on the introduction of a 3-11 service.

244 residents, or their signatures at least, will be present to protest the re-opening of a portion of Marleau Road that has been closed for around 18 years.

The city is planning to conduct water main project on the area, which residents do agree they need but are petitioning that the city does not repave and open the road to automotive traffic as part of that project.
