A week later, McBride is still without quorum

It’s been a week and McBride is still without quorum.

Three village councillors stepped down on Friday, November 18th, leaving just Councillor Rick Thompson and Mayor Loranne Martin in office.

MLA for the area Shirley Bond has been meeting with BC’s Community Minister Michael Fassbender on the matter. Bond says she’s been making sure her constituents are being heard.

“I know that work is underway but it has to be done carefully, thoughtfully, and with a recognition that people made choices electorally and (Fassbender) has to work within that framework.”

Mayor Martin expects either the two remaining members of Council will be given quorum, or the Province will appoint new councillors until the Village can hold a by-election. Bond can’t speculate what will happen, or why the councillors stepped down, but the MLA hopes a decision is made quickly.
