Meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm, located about 20 kilometres south of Highway 16 near St. Marie Lake. 

"The further south you go in the province, the better that chance is of those above normal temperatures really being more firmly in place," said Environment Canada Meteorologist Brian Proctor. 

The Prince George RCMP are cautioning drivers heading north of the city as conditions deteriorate.

Fall is officially underway in the Prince George area and the Central Interior.   Meteorologist Matt Loney said the seasonal forecast, which came out at the start of September is showing above normal temperatures, but near normal precipitation for central BC. 

A severe thunderstorm 10 km southwest of Punchaw, an hour from PG, is moving northeast at 40 km/h.

The storm was moving at a moderate pace of about 20 kllometres per hour along the northeast.

As for the BC Day long weekend, Loney noted there is some instability in the forecast with a chance of showers or thundershowers for today and Saturday before clearing to mainly sunny skies on Sunday and Monday. Temperatures are expected to range between 23 and 26 degrees.

While July has felt like a precipitation heavy month, it's certainly been helping BC Wildfire Crews manage the season.
