NATIONAL JUNIOR A CHAMPIONSHIP–(in Brooks, Alberta)

The 2-0 Prince George Spruce Kings will play the 0-3 Portage Terriers tonight at 6:00 (PT) at the national junior A hockey championship in Brooks.

The Terriers were eliminated from playoff contention on Tuesday after they lost 5-4 to the Oakville Blades.

The Spruce Kings have allowed just one goal and 34 shots against in their two games.

P.G. is 4/11 on the power-play and 8/9 on the penalty kill in the tournament.

The BCHL and Doyle Cup champions are 22-3 in the post-season.

The Spruce Kings will conclude the round-robin Thursday night against the host Brooks Bandits before advancing to the semi-finals on Saturday.

Brooks improved to 3-0 after a 2-1 Tuesday night victory over the Ottawa Jr. Senators.

NHL:

Boston Bruins  2  Carolina Hurricanes  1

Tuukka Rask stopped 35 shots for the Bruins, who have won six straight playoff games for the first time since 1978.

Boston, up 3-0 in the Eastern Conference final, is just one victory away from its third Stanley Cup final appearance in nine years.

The Bruins will go for a sweep against the Hurricanes Thursday night (5:00 PT) in Carolina.

The NHL Western Conference final has shifted to St. Louis.

The Blues host the San Jose Sharks tonight at 5:00 with the best-of-seven series tied 1-1.

The Buffalo Sabres have come to terms with Ralph Krueger to be their head coach.

He will replace Phil Housley who was fired after two seasons on the job.

Krueger coached the Edmonton Oilers during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season.

The 59-year-old spent the last five years as the chairman of Southampton in the English Premier League.


WORLD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP:

Canada will play France Thursday (7:15 a.m. PT) at the world hockey championship in Slovakia.

The Canadian team has a 2-1 record in the 16-team tournament.

MEMORIAL CUP:

The WHL champion Prince Albert Raiders will begin the Memorial Cup Friday against the host Halifax Mooseheads.

The QMJHL champion Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and the OHL champion Guelph Storm are the other two teams in the four-team tournament.

Saskatoon Blades head coach Mitch Love of Quesnel has been named an assistant coach under Dale Hunter on Canada’s 2020 National Junior Team.

Love has been running the Blades bench for two years after serving as an assistant coach with the Everett Silvertips for seven seasons.

During the course of his WHL playing career, Love suited up in the WHL with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Broncos, and Silvertips.


NBA:

Golden State Warriors  116  Portland Trail Blazers  94

Stephen Curry made nine 3-pointers and scored 36 points for the Warriors who lead the Western final 1-0, with game two Thursday night at 6:00 in Oakland.

The Toronto Raptors open the NBA Eastern Conference final tonight (5:30 PT) against the Bucks in Milwaukee.

Despite having just a 6 % chance, the New Orleans Pelicans won the NBA draft lottery, and will pick first on June 20th.

The Pelicans are expected to select Zion Williamson of Duke.

Memphis will choose second, New York third and the L.A. Lakers fourth


MLB: 

Toronto Blue Jays  7  San Francisco Giants  3

Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. belted two out of the park for his first major league homers.

The same two teams play again this afternoon at 12:45 in San Francisco.

Both the Jays and Giants are 17-24.

Prince George Senior Lacrosse resumes tonight at 8:00 at Kin 1, with the RPR Mechanical/JR Construction Bandits against Northland Nissan Assault.
