Newer, younger members wanted for Rotary clubs in Prince George

The Rotary International District 5040 Governor made a stop in Prince George today (Friday) to try and attract the younger generation to join their organization.

The club is looking to be a lot more flexible this time around as in the past they have held morning and lunchtime clubs, two times slots that don’t necessarily work for the younger crowd.

District Governor, Bali Naidoo spoke with MyPGNow.com.

“We’re trying to create a system where we have mealless clubs and lower costs so that younger people can also make sure that they are not sacrificing their family time and work time just to do good in the community.”

Rotary is feeling a sense of urgency to get younger people involved in order to continue certain events.

“One of our clubs had a Ribfest for the first time that attracted ten thousand people, that is something we can build on, it raised a lot of money but we also need a lot of people power.”

Naidoo admits a lot of their more senior members are at an age now where they aren’t able to put the time and effort in they once did putting the group in a tough spot.

“Some people have been in Rotary for 60 or 70 years, they are tired and cannot sustain the same effort that’s needed this is why we are thinking of having a volunteer group in the Prince George community that can help us raise funds.”

Naidoo is making several stops across the north this week including Mackenzie, Terrace, and Burns Lake.

Lorne Calder, a Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Prince George is the District Governor Nominee and will serve his one-year term beginning in July of 2021 until June of 2022.
