WHL: (PG Cougars)

The (3-8-0-1) Prince George Cougars play their next four on the road, including two this weekend; tonight at (6-5) Tri-City and Sunday against (7-7) Vancouver in Langley.

Puck drop tonight is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. PT.

PG is last in the Western Conference, two points behind the (4-4-1) Victoria Royals and the (3-4-2-1) Seattle Thunderbirds.

BCHL: (PG Spruce Kings)

The (5-8-2-1) Prince George Spruce Kings visit the (6-11) Victoria Grizzlies tonight and the (10-6-1-1) Cowichan Valley Capitals Sunday afternoon.

Puck drop tonight is scheduled to go at 7:00 p.m. PT.

Prince George is 4th in the Mainland Division, three points behind the (8-9) Langley Rivermen, eight back of the (9-5-2-1) Chilliwack Chiefs and 11 behind the (12-3) Coquitlam Express.

BC Major Midget League: (Cariboo Cougars)

The Cariboo Cougars visit the (2-7-0-1) Greater Vancouver Canadians tonight at 5:00 and Sunday morning at 10:00 in Richmond.

The (6-1-0-1) Major Midget Cougars are in 4th place in the 11-team BCMML, a point behind the (7-3) Vancouver NE Chiefs, three back of the (8-2) Vancouver NW Hawks and seven behind the (10-0) Okanagan Rockets.

The (6-4) Vancouver Canucks had a 5-2 lead heading into the third period slip away as the Caps scored three goals to force overtime.

Nicklas Backstrom scored the game-winner in the shootout.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will face their historic rival in the Montreal Canadiens (4:00 p.m. PT), and then the Calgary Flames will take on the Winnipeg Jets (7:00 p.m. PT)

Canada West Soccer: (UNBC Timberwolves)

The season is over for the UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team.

The Timberwolves lost 2-1 today (Friday) to the Manitoba Bisons in a Canada West play-in game in Calgary.

The Bisons advance to play the host (10-1-3) Calgary Dinos in the quarterfinals Sunday.

The Timberwolves ended their season with an overall record of 3-8-4.

The UNBC Timberwolves have earned four Canada West soccer awards.

Men’s goalie Rob Goodkey and women’s defender Mara McCleary were named second-team all-stars.

Freshman Reid Adams was selected to the men’s Canada West All-Rookie team.

The UNBC’s women’s soccer team captured the Canada West Fair Play award, given to the team that has the least cards throughout the season.

 

MLB: (World Series)

Houston Astros  4  Washington Nationals  1

Michael Brantley delivered two clutch RBI hits and Robinson Chirinos homered as the Astros got their first win of the World Series.

Washington now leads the best-of-seven series 2-1.

Washington will host Game 4 tonight and Game 5 on Sunday.

The Philadelphia Phillies have hired former New York Yankees skipper Joe Girardi as their next manager.

Girardi replaces Gabe Kapler, who was fired after two seasons.

NFL: (Week 8)

Minnesota Vikings  19  Washington Redskins  9 (Thursday)

The (6-2) Vikings have won four in a row.

There are 13 NFL games Sunday including Green Bay at Kansas City, Philadelphia at Buffalo and Seattle at Atlanta.

CFL: 

Winnipeg Blue Bombers  29  Calgary Stampeders  28

Justin Medlock booted a 34-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Blue Bombers to a victory over the Stampeders last night.

The win came in newly-acquired quarterback Zach Collaros’ Bombers debut and kept Winnipeg’s hopes alive for a home playoff date.

There are three games on today, including Saskatchewan at (8-8) Edmonton (4:00 p.m. PT).

Also, Hamilton plays at Montreal (10 a.m. PT) and Ottawa visits Toronto (1:00).

The (5-12) BC Lions will play their final game on November 2nd when they host Calgary.

NBA:

Boston Celtics  112  Toronto Raptors  106

Jaylen Brown had 25 points, including a key 3-pointer in the closing minutes, to help the C’s hold off the Raptors on Friday night.

Jayson Tatum finished with 25 points and nine rebounds. Kemba Walker had 22 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter.

The (1-1) Toronto Raptors play their third game of the season tonight in Chicago against the (1-1) Bulls.
