The UNBC Timberwolves men’s basketball team is closing in on the third and final playoff spot in the Canada West Explorer Division. With just four regular season games left, The UNBC men are 9-7, four points ahead of 4th place (7-9) Mount Royal and the Timberwolves hold the tie-breaker.
UNBC will host Fraser Valley Friday and Saturday. Fraser Valley is 15-1 in the men’s division and 9-7 in the women’s standings. The 2-14 Lady Timberwolves are out of playoff contention.

–The Prince George Cougars are four points behind the Kamloops Blazers for 3rd place in the BC Division and the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The (20-31-1-1) Cougars host Edmonton Friday and Saturday.
The Cats have dropped 12 straight, including their last seven games at CN Centre.

-The Prince George Spruce Kings have 10 games remaining in the BCHL regular season (6 road and 4 home). They host the Coquitlam Express Friday and Saturday. The (23-20-0-5) Spruce Kings are a solid third in the Mainland Division, six points behind Langley, seven back of Chilliwack and eight ahead of Coquitlam.

–The 27-6-1 Major Midget Cariboo Cougars play their last six regular season games on the road starting Saturday and Sunday at the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

–The PG based Northern Cougars finished first in the BC Female Major Midget League. The Cougars set the league record for most goals (125) and most wins (25).

–Alyx Treasure of Prince George, who competes for Kansas State, won the women’s high jump at the University of New Mexico Invitational meet. Treasure had a leap of 1.83 metres to earn top honors in the field of 15.
