The Prince George Cougars got some help from the Red Deer Rebels as the Rebels (despite being outshot 40-23) beat the Blazers 3-2 in Kamloops. The Blazers hold down the final playoff spot in the BC Division, three points ahead of Vancouver and four in front of last place Prince George. The Blazers & Cougars have 19 games remaining while the Giants have 21 to go.

–The PG Cougars play three of their next seven games against the defending WHL champion Edmonton Oil Kings, including two this weekend at CN Centre. The (20-31-1-1) Cougars, who have lost their last 12, host the (24-23-4-2) Oil Kings Friday and Saturday. The two teams also meet on February 16th in Edmonton.

–The Edmonton Oilers have recalled former PG Cougars defenceman Martin Marincin from their Oklahoma City Barons AHL farm club. The 22-year-old Marincin has 7 assists and 20 penalty minutes in 27 games with the Barons this season in addition to an assist and two penalty minutes in 12 games with the Oilers.

–In a match-up of the third and fourth place teams in the BCHL Mainland Division, the (23-20-0-5) Prince George Spruce Kings are home Friday and Saturday night against the Coquitlam Express. The Spruce Kings are six points behind Langley, seven back of Chilliwack & eight ahead of Coquitlam.

–The (27-6-1) Cariboo Cougars visit the (12-16-4) Fraser Valley Thunderbirds Saturday and Sunday. The Cougars lead the BCMML by 12 points. Cariboo will also visit the Vancouver NW Giants Feb 14 and 15 and the Okanagan Rockets on Feb 28th and March 1st to conclude the regular season.

–The UNBC Timberwolves entertain the Fraser Valley Cascades Friday (6 & 8pm) and Saturday (5 & 7pm) in their final regular season Canada West basketball homes games. The 9-7 UNBC men have won four straight while the Lady Timberwolves sit 2-14. Fraser Valley is 15-1 (men) and 9-7 (women).
