Prince George Ice Oval to re-open on Saturday

You’ll have to wait one more day to skate on the Prince George Ice Oval.

The facility has been closed since Wednesday due to the balmy weather we’ve had in the northern capital.

Spokesperson, Lyle Dickeson gave MyPGNow.com the latest update.

“We scraped off all of the snow from yesterday (Thursday) and it has taken the flood really well here, it’s going to be a bit too warm today to open but it’s looking like a forecast of minus six during the overnight hours so we should be really good to go for tomorrow morning (Saturday).

Dickeson adds they have had their challenges with the Oval in recent weeks.

“So we had a bobcat breakdown and put a bunch of oil all over our track too so we’re trying to deal with that all at the same time. We do our best here with a whole bunch of dedicated volunteers, certainly if we had a concrete base and some refrigeration our life would be a whole lot easier.”

Speed skating and long blades will be using the ice in the morning this weekend before the Oval opens up to the public later in the day.

The Ice Oval is also hosting its Solstice Skate Saturday night from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
