Recycling Environment Action Planning Society outlines end-of-year pitfalls.

The hustle and bustle of the holidays may shift attention away from the environment.

Terri McClymont, Executive Director of Recycling Environment Action Planning Society (REAPS) is dreaming of a green Christmas as she encourages the community to stay environmentally conscious moving into the the new year.

REAPS says that pine cones and spruce boughs make for excellent last-minute holiday decorations, while cloth napkins are a superior alternative to their paper counterparts.

“During the Christmas season, shop local. Our shopkeepers have a variety of items that are either homemade or built for the environment. Whether it’s in the kitchen, the bathroom, your clothes, your jewelry or your food, there’s so much variety there.”

McClymont also advised shoppers to reject paper bags, consider bringing their own reusable mugs, and leave over-packaged goods on store shelves.
