Ty Edmonds, in his 100th WHL game, blocked 34 shots including 18 in the final period to lead the Prince George Cougars to a 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings before 2,455 fans at CN Centre. It was the first victory in a month for the Cougars who ended a seven game home losing streak and a 12 game overall losing skid. Jari Erricson tallied twice in the second period for the Cougars, who are just a point behind Vancouver and two back of Kamloops in the scramble for the final playoff spot in the BC Division. Vancouver rallied to beat Red Deer 5-4 while Kamloops lost 5-3 Friday in Kelowna. P.G. will host Edmonton again tonight before heading out on a 5-game road trip.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings built up a 5-1 lead in the second period and they went on for a 6-4 triumph over the Coquitlam Express before a crowd of 1,042. The same teams meet again tonight at the PG Coliseum.

–The Major Midget leading Cariboo Cougars visit the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds tonight and Sunday.

–The UNBC Timberwolves men’s basketball team had its four game win streak snapped following a 77-71 loss to the first place Fraser Valley Cascades. Attendance was 760 at the Northern Sport Centre. In the women’s Canada West game, Fraser Valley outscored the Lady Timberwolves 88-75. UNBC will entertain Fraser Valley again tonight at 5 and 7:15 in the T-wolves final regular season home games.
