Cunningham plays the hero as Spruce Kings upend Express

It took six tries but the Prince George Spruce Kings finally figured out the Coquitlam Express.

During a BCHL matinee today (Wednesday), the defending Fred Page and Doyle Cup champs slithered past the Express by a 4-3 score.

The Spruce Kings didn’t get off to a great start falling behind 2-0 after the first period as Will Margel and Josh Wildauer found the back of the net against Carter Woodside.

Prince George exploded for three unanswered goals in the middle frame thanks to Mason Reeves, Nolan Welsh and Nick Bochen who shot it past Express netminder Joe Howe.

With less than a minute to go, Wildauer scored his second of the game past Woodside to pull Coquitlam within one.

The Express (32-8-0-1) outshot the Spruce Kings 31-20 overall.

This is the first time in six games PG has beaten Coquitlam this season.

Prince George (16-24-2-3) continues its six-game road trip Friday night at 7:00  in Surrey (18-20-3-4) against the Eagles.
