The PGSS Polars Senior Boys and the Duchess Park Condors Senior Girls are Prince George City Champions in high school basketball. PGSS won a thriller, 94-84 in overtime, over Duchess in the boys final. In the girls championship game, top-ranked Duchess whipped College Heights 83-28.

–The UNBC Timberwolves will conclude the Canada West basketball regular season in Kelowna with a doubleheader against the UBCO Heat Thursday and Friday. The 10-8 UNBC men have already clinched a playoff spot as they are tied with TRU for 2nd place in the Explorer Division. The 2-16 Lady Timberwolves also visit the 4-14 Heat.

–The Prince George Cougars play their next four games in Alberta starting tonight in Calgary. The (31-17-1-4) Hitmen have won eight straight. The (21-32-2-1) Cougars are three points behind Kamloops for the last playoff spot in the BC Division. The Cats, with just 16 games left, also trail the Vancouver Giants by two points.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings put a 3 game win streak on the line Thursday in Langley. The Spruce Kings, with eight regular season games left, are four points behind second place Langley in the BCHL Mainland Division. P.G. also plays at Cowichan Friday and at Victoria Saturday.

–The Major Midget leading Cariboo Cougars visit the second place Vancouver NW Giants Saturday and Sunday. The 28-7-1 Cougars are 10 points ahead of the 22-8-3 Giants.

–13-year-old Eric Orlowsky led the way for the four members of the PG Blizzard Speed Skating Club that competed at the Canadian Age Class Long Track Championships in Saskatoon for athletes aged 11 to 15. Orlowsky was second overall out of 22 skaters, including 1st in the 100 metres and 2nd in the 300. In other results: 12 year olds Max Schonewille and Owen MacDonald were 9th and 16th respectively out of 22 and 13 year old Sylvia Masich finished 11th out of 21 in her age Group.
