Prince George residents named 2020 BC Community Achievement Award winners

Two Prince George residents were named recipients of a BC Community Achievement Award today by Premier John Horgan.

Prince George’s Jim Terrion and Carolyn Duerksen were two recipients of the award, along with Terrace’s Steve Little.

“These days more than ever, our communities are made stronger by British Columbians who go above and beyond,” said Premier John Horgan.

“Thanks go to all of the BC Achievement 2020 Community Award recipients for helping build a better province for everyone.”

Since 1990, Jim Terrion has raised close to $800,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation with a goal to reach one million dollars by 2024.

Jim, who was born deaf, goes door-to-door, visiting communities throughout Northern British Columbia to raise funds to support cancer research.

Meanwhile, Carolyn Duerksen has been involved in the PG musical community for over 25 years, founding the Prince George Tapestry Singers, a youth chorus, in the process.

Terrace’s Steve Little is a DJ at CFNR who has raised funds for the Terrace District Community Services Society, the Salvation Army, and the Kidney Foundation.

The winners will be recognized in a formal presentation ceremony in Victoria, in the presence of Lieutenant Governor of BC Janet Austin.

Each recipient will receive a certificate and a medallion designed by Haida artist Robert Davidson.

Due to COVID-19, the ceremony planned for the end of April has been postponed to a future date to be announced.
