Carolina Hiller of Prince George has three silver medals with one race remaining in long track speed skating in Fort St John. The 17-year-old Hiller placed second in the 1000 metres and mass start. A day earlier, she helped BC to a silver in the team pursuit. Hiller competes today in the 3000 metres. Hiller skated a personal best time in the 1000m, taking a full two seconds off her previous record. “It was awesome,” she said. “I went out there and I left it all on the ice.”

–Meanwhile, her twin brother, Nicolas Hiller, ended up 7th in the long track 1,500 metres and 23rd in the mass start. Nicolas also participates today in the 3000.

–Emily Dickson of PG is going after a 4th medal today in the biathlon at Otway. The 17-year-old Dickson, who grew up in Burns Lake, will be part of the BC team in the 3 x 6 km relay at 10am. Dickson has a gold in the 10 km pursuit, a silver in the 7.5 km sprint and a bronze in the 12.5 km individual. The men’s 3 x 7.5 km relay is scheduled to begin at 1pm.

–It’s Quebec against Ontario for gold in women’s hockey tonight at 7:30 at CN Centre. Quebec nipped Saskatchewan 4-3 in overtime in one semi-final while Ontario beat Alberta 5-2 in the other. The bronze game at 4pm at CN Centre will have Saskatchewan against Alberta. BC will face Manitoba for 5th at 4pm at Kin 2. BC knocked off New Brunswick 4-1 in a placement game.

–Ontario will play Manitoba in the ringette gold medal game today at 4:30 pm at the PG Coliseum. In the semi-finals, Ontario edged Quebec 4-3 and Manitoba outscored New Brunswick 7-4. Quebec faces New Brunswick for bronze at 2pm. BC will play Alberta for 5th at 11:30am. BC edged Saskatchewan 7-6 in overtime in a placement game. Sydney Irving of Prince George is part of the BC team.

–Men’s curling will conclude with the gold medal game today at 5pm featuring Manitoba against Ontario. Manitoba handed BC (skipped by Tyler Tardi of Surrey) its first loss 6-5 in the semis while Ontario toppled Saskatchewan 9-5. BC and Saskatchewan play for bronze today at 1pm.

–In mixed wheelchair basketball at Duchess Park: the gold medal match-up tonight at 7 has Quebec taking on Saskatchewan. Both won their semi-finals handily as Saskatchewan dumped Alberta 81-57 and Quebec whipped PEI 78-36. Alberta faces PEI for bronze at 5pm. BC (which includes Avril Harris and Joel Ewert of Prince George) will battle New Brunswick at 1pm in a placement game. BC won its first placement game 53-38 over Nova Scotia.

–Short track speed skating concludes at Kin 1 with the 3000 metre races in the morning and the relay finals to go in the afternoon (12:45).

–Ski cross will wrap up alpine skiing today at Tabor Mountain.

–Team BC racked up 10 medals on Thursday: five in artistic gymnastics, four in speed skating and one in air pistol target shooting. BC has 9 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze for a total of 34 medals. Quebec leads with 68 medals (26G 19S and 23B) followed by Ontario with 39 medals (18G, 11S and 10B). Alberta is 4th, just behind BC with 32 medals (7G 14S and 11B).
