Cases of COVID-19 in Prince George dip

The number of COVID-19 cases in Prince George has dropped after seeing 70 between April 4th to 10th.

Between April 11th and 17th, the region saw 46 cases, which is a drop of 24 cases from the week prior.

Meanwhile, the BCCDC reports that 5.1 to 10 cases are being found for every 100,000 people in the Local Health Area.

The drop comes only a few weeks after the province implemented a number of temporary restrictions back on March 29th.

Cases identified in the Nechako and Quesnel areas have gone up a little, after seeing 9 and 5 cases respectively.

However, the case counts in the Peace River South region, which encompasses a number of communities including Dawson Creek, Chetwynd and Fort St.John have dropped considerably by 42 cases.

Peace River South saw 76 cases this week, down from the previous count of 118 as the region currently has a couple of active outbreaks, one at the BC Hydro Site C worksite in Fort St.John, and another at the Dawson Creek Hospital.

Prince George’s Northern neighbours, the Peace River North area saw 61 cases, up from the previous count of 48.

Cases identified by Smithers dropped by one, while cases in Burns Lake went up by one.

Meanwhile, Prince Rupert’s vaccination efforts have taken a toll on the community, as the area only saw 3 cases, which is down from the previous count of 27.

This area’s declining case counts have been going on for a while now, considering the region saw 72 cases during the last week of March.
