National Indigenous Peoples Day Drum Circle being held in PG

A drum event will be held at Lheidli T’enneh Park tomorrow (Monday) from 11 AM to 3 PM.

There will be Elders speaking at the event, drum circles, and prayer.

Everyone going to the event is asked to wear orange in light of the remains of the 215 Indigenous children found at the Kamloops Residential School.

“I want some healing for those residential school survivors and their descendants. I hope to break that cycle being a Generation X. I hope to help the Elders that are grieving,” says Wesley Mitchell, the organizer of the event.

Mitchell says this event is about caring, getting together, and feeling safe.

“This one ceremony on June 21st, National Indigenous Peoples Day is very important. Those voices need to be heard, that energy needs to be put out there, and of course the knowledge is number one,” he adds.
