New BC sheriff recruits headed to Prince George

21 sheriffs from two classes have graduated from the Justice Institute of BC in New Westminster.

The recruits will be headed to Prince George, Williams Lake, Fort St John, Terrace, Nelson, and the Lower Mainland.

“Sheriffs play a critical role in our justice system, ensuring the safety of everyone who steps foot in a courthouse,” said David Eby, Attorney General.

Sheriffs carry out orders of the court and ensure the safety of court staff and members of the public.

“The determination of the sheriff recruits to complete their rigorous training regime despite the COVID-19 restrictions was impressive,” said Jenny Manton, Assistant Deputy Minister and Director of Sheriffs.

Recruits were part of a 14-week training program, and five classes have graduated since the pandemic began.
