Exploration Place aiming for June reopening

PG’s Exploration Place can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

After being shuttered for the last two years due to the pandemic, the museum has set a re-opening date of June 18th.

CEO, Tracy Calogheros told MyPGNow.com they are anxious to welcome back the public.

“It’s been two years and a week roughly since we have shut the doors and we’ve had a taste of it back at the pop-up location at Pine Centre Mall. So, we are just anxious to let everybody in on the new vision at Exploration Place.”

Despite being closed for two years due to the pandemic and a major renovation, Calogheros mentioned there was no shortage of work being done behind the scenes

“We may have been physically closed at our location but that didn’t stop us from continuing to be present in the community and quite frankly across the province and across the country all throughout the last couple of years. We were still delivering programming but we were doing it in a whole new way.”

“And, at the same time, we still had our animal ambassadors to care for and we had ongoing responsibilities for our collections and repatriation work so it was a really strange time.”

Calogheros admits they have run into supply chains issues like everybody else.

“This was inspired by needing to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic and then it grew into a complete rethink and overhaul of the product we were offering. The item that comes to mind right off the bat is the air makeup unit that we need for the roof, we ordered it last fall and we are hoping to have it in June. When you are missing pieces like that it is tough to get occupancy and be able to open up.”
