PG’s Walk for Alzheimer’s kicks off on Sunday

Two in three British Columbians have personally known someone who is living with, or has lived with dementia.

That’s according to the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, which is being held in Prince George on Sunday from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the YMCA of Northern BC on Massey Drive.

Mackenzie Kerr with the event said it’s nice to be able to have these kinds of gatherings again.

“We haven’t really been able to gather as a community and raise funds for these important causes, like the Walk for Alzheimer’s, in a while. So we’re really excited to host it in person this year.”

People can register on the website, or find more information on the event on their Facebook page.

“We’re almost at our goal of $15,000, which we’re incredibly excited about, so if you can’t make it in person, you can donate online.”

“So many people that I know have been impacted by this illness. And so it all goes towards research and support in the community. So it will go to our Alzheimer’s office in town, which offers programs,” added Kerr.

She also noted there’s other events going on Sunday.

“It’s short and sweet, and very accessible, it’s just outside the YMCA. And then we’ll all come back and have some treats together. And I know that there’s a lot of other events happening on Sunday, so we’re keeping it short and sweet so that everyone can get to all the events that they want to go to, and support as many causes as they can on Sunday.”
