ICYMI: BBQ, food vendors, and car show arrive at CN Centre today

The BC Gourmet Arts Festival kicks off at the CN Centre for the first time in Prince George today (Friday).

Eli Klasner, Executive Director of the Community Arts Council of Prince George said there will be food vendors, artisanal vendors, and food trucks, but they’ll also have different events everyday, Friday to Sunday.

“It’s three days of unique vendors and outdoor events. We have a whole range of things.”

Today runs from 1 PM to 8 PM, and a community appreciation barbeque will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM.

Saturday runs from 10 AM to 6 PM, with a chili cookoff held from 11 AM to 2 PM, and a Junk in the Trunk event running 9 AM to 2 PM.

Klasner noted there are about 14 different teams taking part in that event.

On Sunday, the event will run from 10 AM to 4 PM, and food trucks will be taking part in a taste competition from 11 AM to 2 PM.

Klasner added that there will also be a car show held throughout Sunday, with the winner being announced at 3 PM.

He said that admission is by donation, and that cash donations go to the Community Arts Council, with non-perishable food donations going to St Vincent de Paul.

“We know that there’s a wonderful culinary sector here in Prince George, and we think this is something that could also help put Prince George on the map as far as a special event that could potentially bring in tourists and visitors to the area.”

“We’re starting a little bit smaller this year, but we’re really hoping to build this up over subsequent years, and have a new event that all Prince George residents can be proud of,” added Klasner.
