WHL:

Tri-City Americans  4  Prince George Cougars  3  (Saturday)

The Americans scored three unanswered goals in the first period and added the winner at 13:37 of the third before 4,031 fans in Kennewick, Washington.

The (14-14-1) Princ Cougars have lost four straight and will conclude a 6-game road trip when they visit the (20-4-1-1) Seattle Thunderbirds on Tuesday.

The Thunderbirds are 2nd in the Western Conference. three points behind the (21-4-2-1) Portland.

Prince George is 5th in the Western Conference, just a point ahead of (14-13) Tri-City and two in front of (11-14-3-2) Vancouver.

Two PG Cougars are at Canada’s world junior selection camp.

Tyler Brennan and Ethan Sampson are among 29 players, including 13 from the WHL, that are trying to earn a spot at camp that began Friday in Moncton, N.B.

Brennan is one of four goalies and Sampson is among nine defencemen on the Canadian roster.

The IIHF World Junior Championship in Moncton and Halifax begins on Boxing Day with four games, including Canada taking on Czechia.

The (14-10-1-1) Spruce Kings visit Nanaimo on Friday (Dec 16th) and Chilliwack on Saturday in their final games prior to Christmas.

The (12-13-3) Vancouver Canucks, coming off Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Minnesota, will play their next game Wednesday night (7:00 PT) against the (13-11-4) Flames in Calgary.

The Flames visit Montreal, Edmonton plays at Minnesota and Ottawa hosts Anaheim among 6 Monday games in the NHL.

World Cup Soccer:  (in Qatar)

The World Cup semifinals begin Tuesday (11 AM PT) with Croatia against Argentina.

The other semi goes Wednesday (11 AM PT) as France battles Morocco.

The winners play in the final on Sunday (Dec 18th at 7 AM PT).

In the quarters: Morocco beat Portugal 1-0 and France knocked out England 2-1 on Saturday.

In other action: Croatia eliminated Brazil on penalty kicks and Argentina edged the Netherlands on penalty kicks.
