WHL:

Prince George Cougars  5  Kelowna Rockets  1

The Cougars scored two unanswered goals in the second period and three more unanswered goals in the 3rd to post their 3rd straight victory before 1,749 fans at CN Centre.

The (22-21-4) Cougars host the (17-27-3) Rockets again tonight (Wednesday).

The same teams also play Friday in Kelowna.

Prince George is 2nd in the B.C. Division and 6th in the Western Conference, four points ahead of Vancouver and four points behind Everett.

The Cougars have two games in hand on both the Giants and the Silvertips.

Kelowna is holding down the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, four points ahead of the Victoria Royals and the Rockets have four games in hand.

The (20-26-4) Vancouver Canucks visit the (28-14-8) New York Rangers tonight (5:00 PT) and Bo Horvat and the New York Islanders on Thursday (4:30).

Vancouver will conclude a 4-game road trip Saturday in Detroit (9:00 AM).

The (21-16-2-1) Prince George Spruce Kings host the (10-24-3-2) Merritt Centennials on Friday and Saturday.

Prince George is 4th and Merritt is last in the 9-team Interior Division.

BC Elite Hockey League: (BCEHL)

(U18 male)  

The (11-14-1-2) Under-18 Cariboo Cougars host the (0-29-0-1) North Island Silvertips four times this week.

The two teams play Friday night at 6:30 in Quesnel, Saturday morning at 9:00 at Kin 1, Saturday afternoon at 4:15 at Kin 1, and Sunday morning at 8:15 at Kin 1.

Cariboo is 7th in the 9-team division.

NBA:

LeBron James has become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.

James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar after he scored 38 points in the LA Lakers’ 133-130 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Jabbar set the record with 38,387 career points.

Canada West Basketball:

The UNBC Timberwolves conclude their Canada West basketball regular season with a doubleheader against the Bobcats Friday and Saturday in Brandon.

UNBC is 7-11 (12th place women) and 8-10 (9th place men).

The top 12 qualify for the playoffs starting Feb 17th.

Special Olympics:

Prince George has been selected to host the Special Olympics BC Summer Games for the third time.

They will be held in 2025 with some 1,100 athletes competing in 10 sports.

There will also be approximately 300 volunteer coaches and mission staff from their home communities around the province.

More than 1,000 volunteers and sponsor support will be needed to help stage the Games.
