World Baseball:

30 players, including outfielder Jared Young of Prince George, will compete for Canada at the World Baseball Classic.

Canada is in a group that will play its round-robin games in Phoenix starting March 12th.

The 27-year-old Young made his major-league debut last year with the Chicago Cubs.

WHL:

The Prince George Cougars are on a mini two-game road trip.

The (23-21-4) Cougars visit the Kelowna Rockets tonight (Friday) and the Kamloops Blazers Saturday.

Prince George beat Kelowna 5-1 (Tuesday) and 7-2 (Wednesday) at CN Centre.

The Cougars are riding a season-high four-game winning streak, outscoring the opposition by a total of 24-6.

Prince George is 2nd in the B.C. Division and 6th in the Western Conference, just two points behind Everett and five back of Tri-City.

BCHL:

The (21-16-2-1) Prince George Spruce Kings host the (10-24-3-2) Merritt Centennials in a doubleheader.

The two teams play tonight and Saturday at 7:00.

Prince George is 4th and Merritt is last in the 9-team Interior Division.

The (21-27-4) Canucks will conclude a 4-game road trip Saturday in Detroit (9:00 AM).

BC Elite Hockey League: (BCEHL)

(U18 male)  

The (12-14-1-2) Under-18 Cariboo Cougars host the (0-30-0-1) North Island Silvertips in a triple-header this weekend.

The two teams battle tonight at 6:30 in Quesnel, Saturday afternoon at 4:15 at Kin 1, and Sunday morning at 8:15 at Kin 1.

Cariboo is 7th in the 9-team division.

Canada West Basketball:

The UNBC Timberwolves visit the Brandon Bobcats tonight and Saturday to wrap up their regular season in Canada West basketball.

UNBC is 7-11 (12th place women) and 8-10 (9th place men).

The top 12 qualify for the playoffs starting Feb 17th.

Brandon is 0-18 (women) and 10-8 (men).

High School Basketball:

The PGSS senior boys basketball team hosts its Bear Claw Invitational tournament today at Saturday.

The PGSS senior boys and girls team will play College Heights in the City basketball finals  Tuesday night at UNBC starting with the girls at 6:00 followed by the boys at 8:00.
