COUNTER ATTACK ROAD CHECKS SET TO LAUNCH ON CANADA DAY

Police will be out in full force across BC during their Counter Attack road checks on Canada Day.

ICBC Program Manager Aileen Shibata says there are many alternatives for a safe ride home if you do plan on drinking.

“Arrange for a designated driver, call a taxi or take transit or take your turn as the designated driver to help your friends and family get home safely.”

In the northern region an average of 13 people are killed in impaired driving crashes during the summer every year.

Shibata says the provincial average is much worse.

“During the summer months an average of 42 people are killed provincially in impaired driving every year so that’s a number we want to bring down because impaired driving crashes are entirely preventable.”

Every Canada Day in the north at least 7 people are injured every 37 crashes.
