Canada tied the game at 3 with 1:10 left in the third period and then won it at 7:51 of overtime.

Riley Heidt of the Prince George Cougars was part of the Canadian team.

He did not pick up a point in the Bronze Medal Game against Slovakia.

BCHL:

The Prince George Spruce Kings have given contract extensions for both their general manager Mike Hawes and head coach Alex Evin.

The 53-year-old Hawes signed a three-year contract after concluding his 18th season with the team, including his 12th as GM.

The Spruce Kings gave the 35-year-old Evin a two-year extension.

He has been the head coach of the team for the last four years and prior to that was an associate coach for two seasons.

The BCHL’s Board of Governors has voted to become an independent league outside of Hockey Canada, effective next month on June 1st.

NHL: (7th and deciding games in the best-of-7 conference quarterfinals)

Both Sunday crucial games were won by the road team

OT: Florida  4  Boston  3

Panthers won 4-3, erasing a 3-games-to-1 deficit and pulling off the stunning upset over the team that won the President’s Trophy.

Florida trailed 3-2 before Brandon Montour scored his second goal of the game with one minute left in the third period.

Carter Verhaeghe scored the winner at 8:35 of overtime.

The Panthers will play the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Seattle  2  Colorado  1

The defending champions are out as the Kraken won 4-3. Seattle will battle the Dallas Stars in the Round 2 of the playoffs.

The first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs will end tonight (Monday) with the New York Rangers at the New Jersey Devils (5:00 PT) in the 7th and deciding game of their series. The winner will advance to the second round against the Carolina Hurricanes.

After three seasons on the job, the Calgary Flames have fired head coach Darryl Sutter.

The move comes just two weeks after the team announced that general manager Brad Treliving agreed to mutually part ways with the organization.

Flames president of hockey operations Don Maloney is currently serving as the team’s interim GM.

The Warriors won the series 4-3 to advance to the second round against the LA Lakers.

Stephen Curry hooped 50 points, the most points ever scored in an NBA Game 7.

The first game in the best-of-7 Eastern Conference semifinal.

–There are two NBA playoff games tonight (Monday): Philadelphia at Boston (4:30 PT) in the opener of that series and Phoenix at Denver (7:00). The Nuggets lead the Suns 1-0 in that Western Conference semifinal.

The loss ended the Jays’ six-game winning streak.

The (18-10) Blue Jays begin a 9-game road trip tonight (Monday 4:10 PT) against the (15-14) Boston Red Sox.

A new season in Prince George Senior Lacrosse will start tonight (Monday) as the Bandits play the Devils at 8:00 at the Kopar Memorial Arena.
