Wheelin’ Warriors spring gala raises $100,000 for local cancer research and treatment

The Wheelin’ Warriors of the North have set a new Free Wheelin’ Dinner and Dance fundraising record.

According to Karin Piche, the Wheelin’ Warriors’ Captain and Founder, the May 27th Gala raised $100,000 for their 2023 campaign.

“It is amazing,” she told My PG Now. “I think it speaks to the community, everyone is wanting to be a big part of the success of our team.”

The evening featured a dinner, dessert, silent auction, live entertainment, and multiple draws.

Money aside, Piche said the night was “fabulous.”

“People were so happy to be out and get dressed up… I think people really do look forward to this event now.”

She also described some parts of the evening as “emotional and heart-wrenching,” the times when stories of the impact cancer has had on attendees’ lives were discussed – “that being said, there was still a lot of joy, and people were happy and excited to be out.”

All of the money raised will stay in northern BC, supporting the BC Cancer Centre for the North.

The Wheelin’ Warriors fundraising efforts are far from over, their sights are set on the annual August Tour de Cure.

Each rider on the team needs to raise a minimum of $2,500 to be able to ride in the tour.

Last year, they raised over $130,000.
