Defenceman Tanner Molendyk of McBride, who plays with the Saskatoon Blades, was selected in the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft, going 24th overall to the Nashville Predators.
Molendyk notched 37 points (9 goals) in 67 games with the Blades this past season.

In total, six WHL players were drafted in the first round, led by Connor Bedard of the Regina Pats who was the first overall pick of the Chicago Blackhawks.

In the final Central Scouting rankings, Heidt was listed 21st among North American skaters, Ziemmer 25th, Myatovic 26th and Molendyk 28th.

Major League Baseball:
Jared Young of Prince George has hit his first homer in Major League Baseball.
It came in his first at-bat with the Chicago Cubs this year in an 8-5 loss Wednesday night to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The 27-year-old Young, who was the Cubs DH, went 1-for-2 at the plate before being replaced in the game.
He was called up on Tuesday from Chicago’s Triple-A farm club in Iowa.
Young has batted .326 with 13 home runs and 45 RBIs in 52 games this season in the minors.
Last year he made his Major League debut by playing six games for the Chicago Cubs.

Domingo German of the New York Yankees pitched a perfect game in the Yanks’ 11-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics.
The 30-year-old German allowed no hits and no walks on 99 pitches.
It was the 24th perfect game in Major League history and the first in 11 years since Seattle’s Felix Hernandez delivered one on Aug. 15, 2012.

Fastball:
The John Cho Cup fastball tournament will be featured on the long weekend at the Spruce City Stadium and Carrie Jane Grey Park in PG.
Games start Friday at 4:00 p.m. and conclude with the final Sunday afternoon around 3:30.
26 teams from all over Western Canada have confirmed their participation.
The tournament consists of 13 teams in the men’s division, seven in U23 and six in the women’s.
