Caledonia Nordic Ski Club seeking letter of support from the City on expansion

The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club is looking to expand its licence of occupation area, and is seeking a letter of support from the City.

At tomorrow’s (Monday) meeting, Prince George City Council will hear from Ski Club Director Jim Burbee on the desired expansion.

According to a map attached to the presentation that will go before council, the Club is looking to expand their licence of operation into the Cranbrook Hill Greenway by approximately 84 hectares, plus a five-hectare section of land to the east of an area they currently operate within on private land through agreements.

“We want to establish formal operating access to these land parcels to ensure the longevity of our facility and the services that it provides to the community,” wrote Burbee in a letter to Mayor and Council.

According to Burbee, the proposed use of the land would be to expand the ski trail network, and offset the incremental loss of ski trails located upon private land.

Also included in tomorrow’s agenda are 26 letters of correspondence from members of the community requesting council provide the letter of support, and one letter noting concerns.

When the request for a letter of support first came to council at the August 16th meeting, there were two letters of correspondence against providing support.

Other items to be discussed tomorrow include community engagement for next year’s budget, and an update on the Official Community Plan Review project.
