Prince George RCMP reminding public about Online Crime Reporting Tool

The Prince George RCMP is reminding the public they can report some crimes online.

“In addition to providing a more convenient way for residents to make a report of something that’s less urgent, or not timely or not in progress, this tool allows call takers and our front line personnel to focus on our higher priority calls, which improves the overall safety and response times of police in the city,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

Cooper said the process takes around 15 minutes, and can be done on mobile phones or computers.

Incidences reportable online are:

  • Damage/mischief to property where the value is under $5000;
  • Damage/mischief to a vehicle where the value is under $5000;
  • Hit & run to property or an unoccupied vehicle;
  • Theft of bicycle where the value is under $5000;
  • Theft of other property where the value is under $5000;
  • Theft from a vehicle where the value is under $5000;
  • General driving behavior reports that are not in progress;
  • Lost property including licence plates or validation decals on licence plates.

The service was first implemented in 2019.

“We have made improvements over the years to increase the types of files we can have go through online crime reporting,”

“We also have the ability now to upload pictures to the online crime report, so if that’s pertinent to your file, you can upload pictures.”

Copper added for emergencies and crimes against a person should still go through the non-emergency line or through 9-1-1.

The Online Crime Reporting tool can be found here.
