BC Government assists aboriginal’s affected by domestic violence

The BC Government is investing 1.5 million dollars to increase domestic violence services for aboriginal people.

Nechako Lakes MLA and Minster of Aboriginal Relations, John Rustad says the funding will come in handy for those in smaller communities.

“Especially in rural areas where their is not a lot of services the 1.5 million dollar investment will help to provide those direct services for aboriginal women and children who have experienced domestic violence.”

The announcement is supports the government’s previous 5.5 million dollar provincial domestic violence plan.

Aboriginal women are three times more likely to be victims of intimate partner violence than non-aboriginal women.
