ICBC encourages drivers to travel safe on provincial roads

ICBC reminds you to stay safe before heading out this Labour Day long weekend.

Spokeswoman, Joanna Linsangan says this weekend is traditionally one of the most dangerous on BC roads.

“On average we see 1900 crashes that occur in the province and as a result 560 people are injured and we see 4 deaths as well.”

Linsangan adds a few helpful tips can make a big difference during your trip.

“Make sure you get a good night’s sleep before your trip so you are alert behind the wheel, also be prepared for planning your route ahead of time to eliminate the stress of your trip and to take rest breaks every 2 hours.”

Contributing factors for crashes this long weekend include distracted driving, impaired driving and speeding.

ICBC encourages drivers to pass off any tech devices to the nearest passenger so you are able to stay focused on driving.
