PG Sports—Weekend Wrap Oct 16-18

The Prince George Cougars are 2-2 on a six game home-stand after a split against the Kelowna Rockets. The Cougars took the opener 3-0 behind 35 saves from Ty Edmonds. The 7-4 Rockets came back with a convincing 6-2 triumph as Tyson Baillie (2 + 3) and Dillon Dube (2 + 2) combined for nine points. The 3-4 Cougars host the 5-3-0-1 Calgary Hitmen Tuesday and Wednesday before starting a four-game road trip that begins Friday in Kelowna.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings lost three games in as many days on the road. They fell 5-2 in both West Kelowna and Penticton after dropping a 4-3 decision in Merritt. The 3-10-0-1 Spruce Kings host the 6-5-1-2 Coquitlam Express Friday and Saturday. The Spruce Kings have scored 31 goals and given up 64 for a league worst -33 goal differential.

–The Cariboo Cougars are back to .500 at 4-4-2 after a tie and a loss in Kamloops against the Thompson Blazers. A 3-3 draw was followed by a Blazers 2-1 win, just their second in eight games this season. The Major Midget Cougars host the South Island Royals Saturday night at 7:15 and Sunday morning at 9:15 at Kin 1.

–In Canada West soccer, the UNBC Lady Timberwolves have their first win of the season, 2-1 over the Regina Cougars. Sydney Hall scored both goals, including the winner in the 84th minute. The UNBC women lost the previous day 3-0 in Saskatoon to the University of Saskatchewan. The 1-8-3 Lady T-wolves conclude their season when they play at UBCO Saturday at noon and at TRU Sunday at noon.

–The UNBC men’s soccer team is 1-9 after a pair of losses to the TWU Spartans 4-0 and 2-1. The UNBC men visit TRU Saturday and Sunday afternoon in Kamloops to wrap up their schedule.

–The UNBC basketball teams start their Canada West regular season at home Nov 6 and 7 against TRU.
