PG Sports—Weekend Wrap—Oct 30-Nov 1

Following a 2-2 road trip that ended with a 2-1 victory in Kelowna, the Prince George Cougars have a home date tonight (Monday) against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The 7-6 Cougars are 3rd in the B.C. Division while the 10-4 Hurricanes are second in the Central Division, two points behind Red Deer with Lethbridge holding two games in hand.

The Cougars go back on the road later in the week as they play Friday in Everett and Saturday in Kamloops before hosting Edmonton November 13 and 14.

–Two convincing victories for the Cariboo Cougars in Nelson as they crushed the last place Kootenay Ice 6-2 (Saturday) and 8-1 (Sunday). The 8-4-2 Major Midget Cougars have won four straight. They return to action with home games against the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds Saturday night at 7:15 and Sunday morning at 9:15 at Kin 1.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings finished October with a 3-2 victory over Wenatchee to split the doubleheader. (Wenatchee took the opener 3-0). The Spruce Kings hit the road for their first six games in November including three this weekend against the bottom three teams in the Island Division.

They visit 10-9 Powell River Friday, 6-9-1-1 Alberni Valley Saturday and 5-12-0-2 Victoria Sunday afternoon. (Powell River has lost six straight) The following week, P.G. plays at Wenatchee on the 13th, Chilliwack on the 14th and Surrey the 15th.

The 5-12-0-1 Spruce Kings, who are six points out of a playoff spot, have their next home game November 18th against West Kelowna.

–The PGSS Polars are P.G. Bowl senior high school football champions. The Polars crushed the two-time defending-champion Duchess Park Condors 50-13 in the final at Masich Place Stadium. Both PGSS and Duchess Park will compete in the Provincial Double-A playoffs November 13th.

The Nechako Valley Vikings whipped the Correlieu Clan of Quesnel 44-0 in the third place game.

–College Heights took top honors at the Kelly Road senior boys volleyball tournament defeating Duchess Park 25-19, 25-14 in the final. D.P. Todd finished third out of eight.

–The UNBC Timberwolves begin their Canada West basketball schedule this week. The Timberwolves host the TRU Wolfpack of Kamloops Friday night at 6 and 8 and Saturday night at 5 and 7.

–Grace Northrop of the Hart Judo Academy captured silver (in women’s U21 -52 kg) at the Quebec Open in Montreal. Taylor Schaus of the Prince George Judo Club finished with two wins and two losses (in men’s U18 -55 kg).
