An additional three million dollars is being allocated for the Path Forward Community Fund and related Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit Initiatives.
The province is supporting the development of a Missing Indigenous Person Notification Pilot Project.
The Path Forward Fund is managed by the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres, which has supported 100 Indigenous-led community projects.
This includes the Prince George Native Friendship Centre, which prioritizes immediate safety, long-term stability and integrated healing supports for individuals and families experiencing violence.
“Ending violence against Indigenous women and girls requires collective action, accountability and solidarity. I am encouraged we are taking another important step with our Indigenous partners to develop the tools necessary to make our communities safer places for everyone.” said Spencer Chandra Herbert, B.C. Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation.
B.C.’s Path Forward includes 28 key mandate commitments that respond to the provincially relevant 231 calls for justice and demonstrate the province’s determination to end violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people.
